| Research Description: | Dr. Wang's current research focus brings together his strong background in corneal and external diseases and molecular biology. He has helped built a unique research program in studying the molecular pathogenicity of a common human pathogen, the fungus Candida albicans. With a unique animal eye model (contact-lens induced keratitis in rabbits), and by utilizing the recent gene knockout mutants in various signal transduction pathways that lead to hyphal growth and invasion, Dr. Wang's laboratory has focused its attention in identifying the key molecular event that is responsible for the pathogenicity of the fungus, thereby offering new therapeutic possibilities. |
