A program to enhance the recruiting of high caliber Postdoctoral Fellows to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Postdoctoral Enhancement Recruiting Incentive Program is designed to permit faculty to offer a competitive package to prospective postdoctoral fellows. It consists of a $3,000 one time supplement intended to be added to the best offer that the faculty member can provide. The faculty contribution to the overall package must be at least equal to the level of support stipulated in the NIH NRSA pay scale. This program is also designed to react rapidly to ongoing discussions involving attractive candidates so that the response time to the faculty request for support can hopefully be a matter of days.
Applications will be reviewed by the Postdoctoral Programs Advisory Committee (current members are: Drs. Dean Ballard, Terry Dermody, Richard O'Brien and Ann Richmond). Each year the institution will offer up to 12 such awards. Because of the nature of the nationwide competition for postdoctoral fellows there are no specific deadlines for application dates for these awards, which will be made on a “rolling” basis, as we anticipate that applications will be received more or less randomly throughout the year. Awards will reflect the educational background, the productivity and creativity as well as the strength of letters of recommendation from individuals well acquainted with the research trajectory of the candidate.
There are no specific citizenship requirements; however it is likely that preference may be given to US nationals as it is usually easier to identify the details of an excellent research background at established institutions within this country.
