Sam Saleh, Senior Research Specialist
I was born and reared in Baghdad, Iraq. Upon finishing high school in Baghdad, I had the opportunity to come to the United States. I came to Nashville and enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, where I received my B.S. Degree in Chemistry in 1976 and Master's in Chemistry in 1979.
Upon graduation, I came to work at Vanderbilt in the Clinical Pharmacology Department where I worked for Dr. Douglas Taber doing synthesis. My primary responsibility was the synthesis of a wide variety of complex organic molecules of biological importance including prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and prostacyclins.
In 1995, I had the opportunity to join Dr. Marnett's lab and work on research involving the synthesis of compounds for selective inhibition of COX-1 or COX-2 metabolism of arachidonic acid and glyceryl prostaglandins.
I am married and have three children and four grandchildren. In my spare time, I enjoy participating in activities with my family, gardening, bird watching, and reading.
