Charlie Knutson, Graduate Student
I grew up in Edina, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Following high school, I attended the University of Minnesota where I received my B.S. in Biochemistry. While at the University I worked with Sharon Murphy in the Cancer Center and studied nicotine metabolism. After graduation I landed an internship with Pharmacia and Upjohn, which changed to Pharmacia, and finally was acquired by Pfizer. During my three years in industry I worked for three different companies and four different departments while remaining in the same city, working with the same colleagues, and performing the same research with each change. My work centered on investigative drug metabolism. I arrived at Vanderbilt University in the Fall of 2003 and joined the Marnett Lab in the Spring of 2004. I will be exploring the metabolism and disposition of DNA adducts. Outside of the lab I enjoy moonlight walks on the beach, listening to Barry Manilow bootlegs and making all my own clothes
