In this seminar, Newt Williams, a former pharmaceutical industry lobbyist and the current Tennessee Chair of Advocacy for the American Heart Association, will guide scientists in how to navigate the Congressional system and be an effective science advocate. Any interested graduate students, post docs, or faculty members are encouraged to attend and see how they can make a difference on any level!

Stress is unavoidable but there is professional help! To live effectively, be creative, and productive means there is going to be stress. Stress becomes a problem when it exists in amounts that are unmanageable. This work shop will focus on how to use stress for personal gain and the development of skills for stress management. The Presidential Management Fellows program is a highly competitive, two-year, paid fellowship program for graduate students who complete their degree requirements in the academic year of award (2008-2009 academic year). Past PMFs have worked in agencies across the government, including the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Federal Bureau of Investigation, NASA, and NIH. Following the conclusion of the two year fellowship, PMFs usually have the opportunity to convert their fellowship into a full-time permanent position.
